A student in Odisha has died after she self-immolated following allegations of harassment. The incident, which originated at a college in Balasore, occurred after the student’s repeated complaints against a teacher who allegedly sought sexual favors were ignored by the institution. Following her death at a hospital in Bhubaneswar, a ruckus ensued outside the facility. Before she succumbed to her injuries, the student was visited by President of India Draupadi Murmu, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The Chief Minister has assured that he "will give justice to the family. And he will look after that in near future. There is no such thing will happen." An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
