In a harrowing incident in Puri, Odisha, a 15-year-old girl was set on fire by three unidentified individuals. The girl was reportedly abducted, taken to a riverbank, and set ablaze after patrol was poured on her. She managed to escape to a nearby house, alerting villagers before the accused fled the scene. The victim is now in critical condition and receiving treatment in the trauma and emergency care unit at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The Orissa Deputy Chief Minister has taken cognizance of the incident, ordering the police to apprehend the culprits swiftly and assuring that all financial and medical assistance will be provided by the government. The official stated, "We pray to God that this incident is not repeated." The case has also drawn political attention, with BJD and Congress leaders visiting the hospital, increasing pressure on the state’s BJP government.
