Veteran journalist Sanjeev Srivastava, former India head of the BBC with over 42 years in journalism, has opened a kachori shop in Jaipur. The 66-year-old clarified that the decision was not driven by financial need or frustration, but by a long-held desire to pursue his passion for food. Srivastava stated he is ‘reasonably well off’ and emphasised that this venture is not a statement against journalism. However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of media in India, saying journalism has become ‘very one-sided’ and ‘bitter’, centred around being either with or against Prime Minister Modi. He believes journalism should present balanced perspectives. Despite the new venture, Srivastava remains involved in journalism through television debates and a YouTube channel. His shop offers reasonably priced items, with the matar kachori being particularly popular at rupees 25.
