Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked farmers for ethanol production from sugarcane, stating it has reduced India’s dependence on crude oil. He said if ethanol production and its blending in petrol had not increased, the country would have had to import almost 700 crore litres of crude oil annually. Modi highlighted that ethanol production saved approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore in foreign exchange, money that would have otherwise gone abroad, and this amount has directly benefited sugarcane farmers. He recalled earlier times when sugarcane dues remained pending for years, contrasting it with the improved situation under the BJP’s double-engine government. Modi also discussed airport expansion, noting that India now has over 160 airports compared to 74 before 2014. He mentioned the UDAN scheme has enabled over 1.6 crore citizens to travel affordably by air, and announced the Centre has approved ₹29,000 crore to expand the scheme, planning 100 new airports and 200 helipads in smaller cities, benefiting Uttar Pradesh significantly.
