The Nobel Prize for Literature has been awarded to Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai for his debut novel, ‘Saturn Tango’, as well as ‘the melancholy of resistance’ and ‘barren Wenckian homecoming’. His fiction is noted for its "long, hypnotic sentences that mimic chaos itself, spiraling through despair, faith and absurdity." The decision puts an end to widespread online speculation of a possible second win for India, with strong predictions favouring writers Amitabh Ghosh and Salman Rashidi. India’s last and only Nobel for literature was awarded to Rabindranath Tagore for his work ‘Gitanjali’ in 1913. While congratulations go to Hungary, the wait for another literary Nobel continues for India.
