On this Special Report, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman outlines a comprehensive roadmap for India’s development across tourism, sports, and agriculture. Highlighting the nation’s potential, she stated, ‘India has the potential and opportunity to offer world-class trekking and hiking experience,’ while announcing the development of sustainable mountain and coastal trails. A major highlight is the launch of the ‘Khelo India Mission,’ a decade-long initiative to transform the sports sector through integrated talent pathways and advanced technology. The Minister also detailed plans to develop 15 archaeological sites, including Lothal and Sarnath, into experiential cultural destinations. In the agricultural sector, the focus remains on ‘Vikasit Bharat’ through the ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ vision, specifically targeting increased farmer incomes. Significant schemes were proposed for coconut, cashew, and cocoa production to achieve self-reliance and global brand status by 2030. Additionally, the government aims to rejuvenate the Indian sandalwood ecosystem and expand high-density cultivation of nuts in hilly regions to empower rural youth and entrepreneurs.
