Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asserted that the government would never compromise on the interests of its farmers as they made the country "self-sufficient" – a subtle message directed at US President Donald Trump amid a stalemate over a trade deal.
"India’s farmers and fishermen are our priority… India will never accept any compromise when it comes to the interests of our farmers. Modi deewar bankar khada hai (Modi is standing like a wall)," the Prime Minister said in his 12th consecutive Independence Day speech on Friday.
