In an exclusive conversation at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Netherlands Prime Minister Dick Schoof highlighted the strengthening bilateral ties between India and the Netherlands. He revealed that both nations are finalising significant agreements in sectors including semiconductors, water management, agriculture, and defence. Prime Minister Schoof expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit the Netherlands before the summer to sign these pacts. On the subject of artificial intelligence, he stated, ‘I think it’s important that other countries and certainly also India… is discussing in what way we can develop AI, responsible AI.’ He emphasised the need for AI to be an enabler rather than a disruptor, particularly concerning child safety and misinformation. Addressing global geopolitics, Schoof discussed Europe’s efforts to reduce dependency on single nations and the ongoing security challenges posed by Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. He concluded by noting India’s pivotal role in bridging the divide between the Global North and the Global South.
