Violent, youth-led protests have erupted across Nepal, including in the capital Kathmandu and cities such as Biratnagar and Pokhara. The unrest, termed the ‘Gen Z revolution’, is a response to a government-imposed ban on 26 social media platforms and political corruption. Protesters have clashed with security forces, leading the Nepal National Human Rights Commission to condemn the use of excessive force. The clashes have resulted in 20 deaths and hundreds of injuries, overwhelming local hospitals. There are widespread calls for the Prime Minister to resign.
