Nepal has a new interim Prime Minister, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, who has become the first woman to hold the office in the nation’s history. Her oath was administered by the President at Shanti Niwas, with elections scheduled to take place in the next six months. Supporters are hailing the development as a "fruit of patience, unity and sacrifice." While the youth group referred to as ‘Jainzi’ will not hold cabinet positions, it will form a special advisory committee to monitor and guide the new government. This appointment has a precedent from 2013 when a Chief Justice also led an interim government for conducting elections. A speaker in the programme described Karki as having a reputation for being "a straight individual…somebody who’s fought against corruption."
