Severe flooding and deadly landslides have caused devastation in eastern Nepal and north Bengal. In Nepal, 49 lives have been lost, with rescue teams from the Nepal Army and armed police force on the ground. The Kankai river has overflowed, prompting authorities to open all 56 gates of the Koshi Barrage, releasing over 5 lakh cubic meters of water which is now entering Bihar and affecting districts like Supol. In north Bengal, relentless rains have led to 11 fatalities. Major infrastructure has been damaged, including the collapse of the Dudiya Bridge connecting Mirik and Siliguri, and the submergence of NH10. A speaker highlighted the vulnerability of the region, stating there is a need for a detailed study on construction in an earthquake-prone zone like Darjeeling. NDRF teams are conducting rescue operations, but many villages remain cut off.
