The National Democratic Alliance has announced veteran leader CP Radhakrishnan as its Vice Presidential candidate. Radhakrishnan, currently the Maharashtra Governor, has held several key positions, including former Tamil Nadu BJP chief and a two-time Member of Parliament from Coimbatore. He has also been associated with the RSS and Jan Sangh, and comes from the OBC community. Prime Minister Modi lauded his nomination, stating, "In his long years in public life, Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji has distinguished himself with his dedication, humility and intellect." The announcement follows a BJP Parliamentary Board meeting and comes months ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections, signaling a focus on expanding the party’s presence in Southern India. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has initiated talks with the Congress and other opposition parties to seek support for Radhakrishnan. The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for September 9.
