The National Democratic Alliance has announced veteran leader CP Radhakrishnan as its Vice Presidential candidate. This announcement comes ahead of the India Block meeting to strategise for the Vice Presidential polls. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken with the Congress seeking support for Radhakrishnan, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju will be his election agent. CP Radhakrishnan is currently the Maharashtra Governor and has served as Tamil Nadu BJP chief, associated with RSS and Jan Sangh, and comes from the OBC community. Prime Minister Modi has lauded his dedication, humility, intellect, community service, and grassroots work. Congress leader Manickam Tagore slammed the NDA’s pick, stating the alliance chose an RSS man. The opposition has questioned the focus on symbolic positions, with one party stating, "My party has also been constantly saying the president was not even invited for the inauguration of the new new Parliament. So why give only symbolic position? Why not give position where there is real power Tamil Nadu does not have." The NDA’s move is seen by some as a strategic step for inclusivity and a response to Dravidian cultural narratives.
