Finland President Alexander Stubb told India Today in a World Exclusive interview that Finland would have never joined NATO had Russia not attacked Ukraine. President Stubb, speaking on the sidelines of his visit to New Delhi, said Russia is not going to win the war in Ukraine, and expressed confidence in NATO’s future, describing the emergence of ‘NATO 3.0’. He said that over 90,000 Russian soldiers have died in three months, and Russia faces zero economic growth, zero reserves, 16 percent interest rates, and double-digit inflation. On the rules-based international order, President Stubb advocated for India to receive a permanent seat in the UN Security Council. He emphasized that multilateralism must give more agency to the Global South. President Stubb also discussed the situation in West Asia, calling Iran’s attack on Gulf states a strategic mistake, and outlined a potential framework for Ukraine-Russia peace negotiations involving security guarantees and reconstruction.
