In a significant legal development, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has refused to take cognizance of the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) charge sheet against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald money laundering case. Special Judge Vishal Gogne ruled that the complaint was not maintainable as it was based on a private complaint rather than a formal FIR. An unidentified Congress leader hailed the verdict, stating, ‘Today the judgment is significant because cognizance is the lowest form of dealing with a case.’ The ED is expected to challenge the order, noting that the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing has now registered an FIR.
