A massive solar flare from sunspot AR 3664 has hit Earth, lighting up the skies with stunning auroras. Now, Mars is next in line to face its impact. NASA’s MAVEN has detected the largest flare since 2014, rapidly heating and ionizing Mars’ upper atmosphere. The CME may trigger a global-scale aurora on Mars, possibly visible to the Perseverance rover. Unlike Earth, Mars lacks a magnetic field, making it vulnerable to charged particles.
