Detected by NASA’s James Webb Telescope, DMS is primarily emitted by marine phytoplankton on Earth. Dr. Nikku Madhusudan, leading the study from the University of Cambridge, was stunned by the discovery, though he remains cautious, acknowledging that the evidence is not yet conclusive. With K2-18 b’s potential for habitability, including its hydrogen-rich atmosphere and ocean-covered surface, this finding could revolutionize our understanding of life beyond Earth.
