Nabanna Abhijan Rally called for August 27 to protest the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case. The West Bengal Police tightened security around the West Bengal state secretariat "Nabanna". As the protesters reached Nabanna, the demonstration gained intensity as students raised their voice. The agitators even broke barricades placed by the police as anger simmered on the streets of Kolkata. BJP State President Suvendu Adhikari hurled big charges against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He claimed that student activists who were distributing food, who were arriving at Howrah Station, missing after midnight. However, West Bengal Police refuted Adhikari’s claim and said that political leaders creating a false narrative. The ‘Nabanna Abhijan Rally’ was called by Paschim Banga Chatra Samaj and other organizations demanding justice for ‘Abhaya’. The police unleashed heavy water canons and resorted to baton-charge to quell high-voltage protests.
