A leader of Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress was involved in the violence in Murshidabad that broke out last month- that’s what the report by a probe committee constituted by the Calcutta High Court has said. In a series of scathing observations, the report says that police didn’t act, they failed to respond when the beleaguered people called for help. The attacks, which took place during the passage of the Waqf Amendment bill and sparked a huge political row. The report clearly indicts the police and the local leadership of TMC. The question is this: Will the Home Minister of Bengal, who is also the CM, act against her own? Will she take action against the local police, or will the status quo prevail?
