Mumbai News LIVE: Monorail Halts In The Wadala Area Of Mumbai Due To Technical Glitches
Mumbai’s monorail service faced yet another disruption when a train en route to Wadala suddenly halted near the Wadala area due to a technical glitch, specifically a power supply issue. The incident occurred around 7:16 AM between Antop Hill Bus Depot and GTBN Monorail Station, stranding approximately 15-20 passengers on board. Emergency response teams from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), fire brigade, and Mumbai Police swiftly mobilized, evacuating all passengers by 7:45 AM and transferring them to an incoming train from Chembur. No injuries were reported, and services resumed shortly after. This marks the second such breakdown in less than a month, following a similar overcrowding-related halt on August 19, 2025, near Mysore Colony station. Officials attribute the recurring issues to aging infrastructure, spare parts shortages, and occasional overloading beyond the train’s 104-tonne capacity. Ward Councillor Rajesh Ananda Bhojane urged the government to address these persistent problems, highlighting the monorail’s role as a vital feeder service in Mumbai’s congested eastern suburbs. Amid light to moderate rains in parts of the city, the event underscores ongoing challenges for Mumbai’s public transport system, which has seen multiple glitches since its 2014 launch.
