Mojtaba, the second son of the former Supreme Leader, was backed by Iranian forces and selected by the 88-member Assembly of Experts. He is described as a mid-ranking cleric with significant influence within Iran’s security forces and extensive business networks. His selection was seen as sending a message that Iran’s power structure remains stable despite military strikes. Iranian media referred to him as the most deserving leader, and his proximity to his father and wider acceptance were cited as key factors in his elevation to the role.
