Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Aizawl, Mizoram, to flag off three new train services on 13th September 2025, marking a historic moment in northeast connectivity. For the first time, Mizoram’s capital is being connected to India’s vast railway network. The new services include a Rajdhani Express to New Delhi, a tri-weekly express to Kolkata, and a daily Mizoram Express to Guwahati. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav noted the project includes challenging construction, with one bridge taller than the Qutub Minar. The initiative is set to significantly boost the region’s economy and tourism, reduce travel times by half, and facilitate the transport of local produce like turmeric and ginger to new markets through new cargo and refrigerated coaches. A railway official stated, "Now Mizoram is getting connected with the entire railway network of our country…"
