Pakistan hosted foreign ministers from Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia in Islamabad to discuss de-escalation in the Gulf as the US-Israeli war on Iran continues into its second month. Egyptian, Turkish and Saudi foreign ministers met with Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar for talks. Pakistan, positioned as a potential mediator between Washington and Tehran, convened these discussions as the conflict’s economic impact affects countries globally, including India, China, Malaysia and Indonesia. The talks come at a time when Iranian missiles and drones are reportedly hitting Saudi Arabia. US President Donald Trump recently reposted a social media post by Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, claiming Iran allowed 20 Pakistani-flagged ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The extent and credibility of these diplomatic efforts remain uncertain, though back-channel communications appear to be ongoing among Islamic countries and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation members.
