As the Israel-Iran conflict enters its second week, questions emerge about whether Israel and the United States underestimated Iran’s capability to strike back and its staying power in combat. Iran has claimed it hit a Kuwaiti oil tanker and continues to fire missiles and Shahid drones towards Israel, American interests, and Arab nations in the region. Israel and the United States claim they have achieved total or near total air superiority with an 80 to 90 per cent reduction in Iranian missile and drone attacks. However, strikes have reportedly spread to Azerbaijan and Gulf allies, with concerns about running low on interceptors to target incoming Iranian drones. Vivek Klein, Editor-in-Chief of the Jerusalem Post, states ‘Israel is winning, and the United States is winning’, describing the cooperation between Middle East regional security forces and Israel as unprecedented. He notes that Israeli generals ‘have never spoken so much English’ due to extensive cooperation with allied countries, calling it a ‘paradigm shift’ in the Middle East.
