A recent study has uncovered meteoric iron in Early Iron Age ornaments from Poland, suggesting a fascinating connection between celestial events and human craftsmanship. Dr. Albert Jambon and his team analyzed artifacts from two ancient Lusatian Culture cemeteries dating back to 750-600 BCE. The researchers discovered that some iron ornaments were made from meteoritic iron, a rare material sourced from meteorites that fell to Earth. By examining the nickel content in the artifacts, they determined the use of ataxite meteorites, which are extremely rare. This discovery raises intriguing questions about the origins of iron smelting and suggests that early humans may have witnessed meteorite falls, influencing their use of such iron.
