Meta and Google are under fire for allegedly running a covert Instagram ad campaign on YouTube aimed at teenagers, in violation of Google’s own policies banning targeted ads for users under 18. According to the Financial Times, the campaign exploited a loophole by using “unknown” demographic labels, which likely included teens. Assisted by Spark Foundry, the campaign was tested in the U.S. and Canada. After exposure, Google launched an internal probe and canceled the program. The incident raises serious concerns about tech giants prioritizing profits over ethical advertising standards.
