In an exclusive interview with India Today, Mehdi Hasan, editor-in-chief and CEO of Zeteo News, criticized the ongoing US-Israel military campaign against Iran as ‘a completely unnecessary, unprovoked war of aggression’. Hasan argued that the war lacks clear strategic goals, with the administration’s rationale ‘shifting by the day’. He stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been ‘yearning, dreaming of doing this for 40 years’ and that Donald Trump is the first American president to agree to bombing Iran, unlike predecessors including George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Hasan also suggested the war serves as ‘a distraction from domestic economic woes and the release of the Epstein files’. He highlighted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio admitted the ‘imminent threat’ justification was based on Israel’s planned attack on Iran, not a direct threat to the United States. Hasan noted that despite American military action, public opinion remains opposed to the war, with only one in four Americans supporting strikes on Iran even after combat began.
