Mehbooba Mufti Defends Vandals of National Emblem at Hazrat Bal Shrine | India Today News

A political controversy has erupted in Jammu and Kashmir after a plaque bearing the National Emblem was vandalised at the Hazrat Bal Shrine following Friday prayers. An FIR has been filed against the vandals, but PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has defended them, stating it’s "not right to arrest the vandals" and that they are "not against the emblem." Mufti suggested the placement of the emblem hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims. The incident has drawn sharp reactions, escalating into a political conflict. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah also questioned the need for the plaque. In response, Daraksha Andrabi, the Waqf Board chairperson, has condemned the National Conference, accusing them of wanting to bring gun culture back to Srinagar. The situation involves religious sensitivities and has become a significant political issue.
