In a major breakthrough for India’s fight against Left-Wing Extremism, one of the country’s most wanted Maoist commanders, Madvi Hidma, has been eliminated by special police forces. The gunfight took place in the Martandumalli Forest area of Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitaramaraju district, where Hidma was killed along with his wife, Raje, and four other insurgents. For over a decade, Hidma, a central committee member of the CPI (Maoist), was the mastermind behind several deadly attacks on security personnel, including the 2010 Dantewada massacre, the 2013 Jiram Valley attack on Congress leaders, and the 2021 Sukma-Bijapur encounter. His elimination, just days before a deadline reportedly set by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is being seen as a significant victory in the government’s mission to achieve a ‘Naxal-mukta Bharat’.
