A journalist was assaulted at an MDMK event in Sathur, Virudhunagar district, for filming empty chairs as attendees were leaving. MDMK chief Vaiko was seen visibly angry, instructing his cadre to snatch cameras and ‘pull out the film rolls’. Two journalists were reportedly injured in the attack. The BJP has condemned the incident, with party spokesperson Narayan Tirupati calling it ‘highly ridiculous’ and demanding an apology from Vaiko. The incident has raised questions about press freedom and political conduct, with expectations of a formal complaint being filed.
