In a controversial statement, All India Imam Association President Maulana Sajid Rashidi has refused to term the killing of Hindus in Bangladesh as ‘genocide’. Speaking on the recent lynching of Dipu Das and other attacks, Rashidi asked, ‘Where is the genocide?’ and compared the situation to Gaza, claiming 40,000 children were killed there. He also drew parallels with mob lynchings in India, citing NCRB data to argue that if 50 deaths in India aren’t genocide, then 15-20 in Bangladesh shouldn’t be either. Rashidi further alleged that the Yunus government is weak. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned his remarks, calling him a ‘repeat offender’ who excuses violence against Hindus.
