Maulana Sajid Rashidi remains defiant over his comments about Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav’s attire during a visit to the Parliament street mosque. The cleric questioned her for having her head uncovered inside the mosque. Rashidi had earlier used controversial words to describe the way the Member of Parliament was seated. The BJP has criticized the Samajwadi Party’s silence, stating that for them, Muslim appeasement is more important than a woman’s honour. Standing by his remarks, Rashidi said, “I have given this statement keeping in mind the Islamic beliefs. And I stand by my statement.” He added, “The community I come from, if a girl’s headscarf even slips, we say she is roaming naked.” Dimple Yadav is a Member of Parliament and is married to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
