A major accidental explosion has occurred at the Nowgam police station on the outskirts of Srinagar, causing multiple casualties and significant damage. The blast took place while a forensic team was handling a large cache of explosives, including ammonium nitrate, that had been seized in connection with a Jaish-e-Mohammed terror module investigation spanning from Faridabad. According to India Today’s Ashraf Wani, reporting from the scene, the impact was severe, with information from inside indicating that ‘most of the police station here in the now gum has completely got damaged in a dead blast’.
