A married woman, Ruby Mehra, was shot in the head by a stalker named Karan in Patti town, Taran Taran, Punjab, and is battling for her life. CCTV footage shows the stalker, who had been harassing the woman for several months, accosting her on the street in broad daylight and shooting her point-blank. The woman attempted to defend herself, but a bystander fled instead of helping. The attacker is currently absconding, and a manhunt is underway. The incident occurred just days after an Aam Aadmi Party sarpanch was killed at a wedding. Separately, two police officers were found dead in Gurdaspur, with allegations linking the killings to a terror outfit. The incidents raise serious questions about the easy availability of illegal weapons and the law and order situation in Punjab, particularly regarding women’s safety and the brazenness of such attacks in residential areas.
