Two Assam Rifles jawans were killed and five others injured when unidentified gunmen ambushed a security convoy in Manipur’s Bishnupur district. The attack occurred around 5:50 pm as a vehicle with 33 personnel was moving from Imphal towards Bishnupur. The incident took place in an area denotified under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, or AFSPA, and happened after a recent visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manipur. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. While no group has claimed responsibility for the ambush, the Director General of Assam Rifles has conveyed condolences to the families of the personnel who lost their lives. Security forces have launched search operations in the region and Manipur is on high alert.
