Manila Protests: Thousands Rally To Denounce Officials, Lawmakers Over Flood-Control Corruption
Thousands of people gathered in Manila, Philippines to protest a major corruption scandal involving lawmakers, officials, and businesspeople, connected to flood control projects.
Instead of demanding the resignation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the protests centered on exposing systemic corruption.
The US and Australian embassies cautioned their nationals to stay away from protest sites, and police and troops were sent in to maintain the order. The protests were among the biggest anti-corruption events in recent years, a sign of the people’s mounting dissatisfaction over the misappropriation of public funds.
