West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she waited for two hours to meet the protesting doctors, but got no response from them. Earlier in the day, the state government invited doctors for talks at 5 pm today to end the month-long stand-off in the wake of the rape and murder of the 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The ongoing dispute has reportedly resulted in 27 deaths and left over 1,500 patients awaiting heart operations in government hospitals across the state. The situation remains tense as the government struggles to resolve the issue.
