The political battle in poll-bound West Bengal has intensified, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleging that the BJP attempted to cancel her Bhabanipur candidature through false affidavits and “forcefully” deleted nearly 90 lakh voters during the Special Intensive Revision process. She also raised concerns about possible EVM tampering, calling the exercise a “big scam” and urging voters to remain vigilant ahead of the Assembly elections.
Hitting back, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress during rallies in Bankura and Onda, vowing to end the party’s alleged “syndicate raj.” Shah accused Mamata Banerjee of playing the “victim card” and, invoking Satyajit Ray’s Hirak Rajar Deshe, likened her to an autocratic ruler. Meanwhile, tensions escalated in the Moyna constituency of Purba Medinipur after violence during a TMC campaign left several workers injured, with both TMC and BJP trading allegations over the incident.
Adding to the political rhetoric, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a rally in Kushmandi, accused the TMC of disrespecting women and tribal communities and promised enhanced safety, employment, and financial empowerment for women, along with the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission.
