Malegaon Blast: All Accused Acquitted; 'Saffron Terror' Debate Reignites | India Today News

A special NIA court has acquitted all accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, which killed six people and injured over 100 in Maharashtra. The verdict comes after a 17-year-long investigation involving four different agencies. The court found that the prosecution could not provide material evidence to prove the charges, including claims that Lieutenant Colonel Purohit supplied RDX or that the motorcycle used belonged to Sadhvi Pragyasingh Thakur. The decision has triggered sharp political reactions, with Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stating, “terror will never be saffron.” In response to the verdict and the political debate, Congress spokesperson Renuka Chaudhary said, “Every religion has a terrorist.” The judgment leaves a critical question unanswered: who was responsible for the attack, as two accused remain at large.
