A special NIA court has acquitted all seven accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, including former BJP MP Pragya Thakur and Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit, 17 years after the explosion killed six people. The court cited a lack of strong evidence from the prosecution, stating it failed to prove the charges. It was observed there was no concrete evidence that the motorcycle used in the blast belonged to Pragya Thakur or that Colonel Purohit supplied RDX. While the accused have been given a clean chit, the verdict has reignited a political debate over the term ‘Saffron Terror’. The families of the victims have stated they will challenge the decision. One said, "We will appeal to the Supreme Court for justice." The court has ordered compensation for the families of the deceased and for those who were injured.
