A show of military strength greeted Malaysia’s king and onlookers in the administrative capital Putrajaya on Saturday, as the country held a parade celebrating its independence day.
The event draws thousands of spectators from around Malaysia. It also gives the nation a chance to showcase its military prowess.
This year marks the 67th anniversary of Malaysia’s independence from Britain.
Kuala Kumpur resident Hwang Chee Yan explained to The Associated Press why she made the journey.
“Previously I just attend those (national day) events in the KL area, but this time there is no event in the KL area, so I came over to Putrajaya, so it’s a first time,” she said.
