Maj Gen GD Bakshi On Pakistan’s Asim Munir And His Self-Destructive Tactics
Major General GD Bakshi explains why Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir is facing growing pressure at home and abroad, as Munir made big promises to the United States, Saudi Arabia, and others without having the resources or troops to deliver them. These include offering to send large numbers of Pakistani soldiers to Gaza and Yemen, and offering oil, minerals, and rare earths that Pakistan does not have in usable form.
He points out that Pakistan is already stretched due to insurgency in Balochistan, unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and security duties in Kashmir. Taking troops out for foreign missions could weaken Pakistan internally and reduce its military options.
