Several workers of Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) were detained on Tuesday during a rally to counter a protest staged by traders in Maharashtra over the assault of a food stall owner for not speaking Marathi. The rally in Mira Bhayander area brought Thane district to a standstill, with heavy police deployment and road blockage affecting traffic movement.
Despite no police permission for the rally on the route, the MNS workers planned to march to Mumbai. However, the swift detention of MNS’s Thane and Palghar head Avinash Jadhav and other leaders in the early morning derailed the party’s plans.
