The Madras High Court is scheduled to hear an urgent plea at 4:30 PM today against actor Vijay’s rallies. The plea seeks to restrain Vijay’s TVK from conducting any public gathering until the completion of an inquiry into the deaths of 39 people from the recent tragedy. The Karur stampede tragedy is a focal point of this legal action. The inquiry committee constituted by the state government is headed by retired High Court judge Aruna Jagadeeshan. This one-woman commission will ascertain the cause of the stampede-like situation and determine accountability. Vijay’s statewide tour, originally scheduled to end by December, has been extended until February.
