A massive manhunt is underway after a deadly fire at the Birch nightclub by Romeo Lane in Goa claimed 25 lives. The focus is now on fugitive owners Gourav and Sourabh Luthra, who fled India hours after the blaze. Both have moved court seeking anticipatory bail, even as Interpol issues a Blue Corner Notice to track them in Thailand.
As police tighten the net, a key breakthrough comes with the arrest of Ajay Gupta, a partner in the nightclub, who was detained after allegedly attempting to evade investigators. Goa Police have registered serious charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, while authorities move to cancel passports and initiate extradition proceedings.
The Goa government has also announced a sweeping safety audit of tourist establishments, tightening fire and licensing norms to prevent a repeat of the tragedy.
