Lucknow University has sealed the historic Lal Baradari mosque on its campus, citing that the 200-year-old Nawab-era building is in a dilapidated state and could collapse at any time. The administration’s decision to barricade the premises and prohibit Namaz has sparked intense protests from the student community. During the demonstrations, Hindu students formed a human chain to protect Muslim peers offering prayers outside the sealed structure, sending a message of communal harmony during the holy month of Ramzan. Protesting students questioned the timing of the move and reportedly removed police barricades in a show of dissent. The situation has taken a political turn with a Congress Member of Parliament visiting the campus to support the students. While the university maintains the closure is a safety measure for a building that also houses a bank and canteen, students allege the action was taken without prior notice. Heavy police deployment remains on campus to maintain law and order as the dharna continues.
