Two Indian-flagged liquefied petroleum gas tankers are preparing to sail through the Strait of Hormuz in the coming days after a pause in their voyages, according to shipping data and sources cited by Reuters. No crude oil tankers have transited the waterway in the past 24 hours. Hundreds of vessels have dropped anchor since Tehran threatened to attack ships attempting to leave the Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20 percent of global oil and LPG flows. In a separate development, India’s state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited has bought 2 million barrels of Angolan oil via a tender for early May delivery, according to three trade sources. The move comes as reduced availability of costly Middle Eastern oil leads Indian refiners to shift to West African and Asia-Pacific sources. India, which relied on Middle Eastern oil for over 45 percent of its oil imports, has been significantly impacted by disruptions caused by the US-Israeli war on Iran that has halted shipments via the Strait of Hormuz.
