LPG vessel Jag Vasant has arrived at Kandla Port in Gujarat carrying over 42,000 metric tonnes of LPG, providing significant relief to India’s energy supply chain amid global concerns over the Strait of Hormuz crisis. The vessel, one of two ships recently allowed passage through the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, will undergo mid-sea transfer by the Kandla Port Authority. Half of the LPG will be transferred to daughter vessels for distribution to southern and eastern parts of India, while the remaining cargo will support Gujarat’s supply needs. Another vessel carrying 42,000 metric tonnes is expected to reach Mangalore Port. Together, both shipments represent approximately 1.5 days of India’s domestic LPG supply. The government has eased restrictions on commercial LPG supply to hotels and restaurants, which had been blocked earlier. Authorities are encouraging the use of piped natural gas (PNG) to reduce pressure on the LPG supply chain. No shortages have been reported in Gujarat over the past 15 days, with panic buying at petrol pumps having subsided.
