Panic buying and long queues at LPG distributors are being reported across several cities amid fears of cooking gas shortage as the West-Asia conflict disrupts global energy supplies. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said there is no shortage for domestic consumers and steps have been taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of LPG, CNG and PNG. Government sources say India is working to secure energy supplies, expanding imports and sourcing oil and gas from around 40 countries. However, the National Restaurant Association of India says the crisis is hurting the hospitality sector, warning that LPG supply disruptions could lead to losses of 1200 to 1300 crore rupees every single day. Reports from Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bhopal show hotels and restaurants facing severe commercial LPG shortages, with many limiting menus or shutting operations temporarily.
