Amidst reports of an LPG shortage affecting commercial establishments, government sources have stated there is no need to panic and confirmed talks are underway with 40 nations to procure oil and energy sources, compared to 27 countries earlier. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri is in touch with respective countries to fulfil India’s energy needs. The government has reprioritized LPG distribution, focusing more on domestic household consumption over commercial interests. Bangalore and Chennai have reported significant shortages affecting hotels and restaurants. In Bangalore, restaurant owners claim they are unable to procure adequate cylinders and report a black market with doubled prices. One restaurateur stated his establishment requires 20 to 25 cylinders daily but cannot procure even three to four. In Chennai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Modi urging uninterrupted commercial LPG supply. Some domestic consumers in Chennai also report delays in cylinder delivery despite government assurances.
